Why Modern America Creates Fragile Children
You are broken, and it isn’t your fault.
My grandfather thought that instant popcorn, coffee, and oatmeal would destroy our society. Was he right?
I don’t know everything, but this is what I know.
Every generation loves to complain about the generation that comes after them and those that came before them. I won’t complain about either one. I want to talk about how modern America created fragile children incapable of reading this article without getting offended.
Why did I let my 9-year-old ride the subway alone?
In 2008, Lenore Skenazy’s son wanted to ride the Subway alone.
The only problem was that he was 9 years old and lived in New York, one of the busiest metro systems in the world. Her son insisted, so she let him do it.
She didn’t trail him. She trusted that she had taught him enough to find his way home alone or ask a stranger for help. Thirty minutes later, her son got home, happy and safe. Critics accused her of being a horrible parent and wanted authorities to charge her with child abuse.
That reminds me of my childhood. I spent too much time playing outside, sometimes wondering where my parents were.
